A TiT question! YAY! TiT TiT TiT
    #3866763 - 03/04/05 08:58 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Ok, my TiT has been running (dry run Yo!) for a couple days. I can keep a constant 79-80 degrees (i know it will go up a few degrees when i put my jars in there) so I am happy about that.

What I am not happy about is my humidity. I can get it to 50%. I know for incubation it should be at 70% and for the PMP it should be 100%.

Now, i cant get a clear picture from doing my research in the TEKs or the archives so please help.

Do I put Perlite in the TiT to keep the hummidity constant and high. Insetead of using alot of Perlite like in a PMP, should I just have a small container to keep the hummidity not that high. Misiting is not helping and I am sealing the container. Any I have a nice digital hydrometer that has been calibrated.

I have tried a number of differnt things to get the hummidity up but to no perlite yet.

Also, since im so friggin OCD, i know that perlite has no nutrients and that a splash of h202 in water in it is good enough, but can I nuke it just to be sure its clean?

I'm confused with your terms here.  "For incubation it should be at 70%, for PMP it should be at 100%"  Are you referring to the incubation of casings or jars?  In the case of jars, you don't need to hit any certain RH%.

Is this for a TiT fruiting chamber?  Are you doing casings or cakes? Please elaborate.

You dont need humidity for incubating jars. They are their own sealed high humidity environment. When you are fruiting you will want between 80% and 100%, there are many schools of thought on ideal humidity. The choice is yours.

you don't need humidity while you are incubating anything
the jar/s are enclosed and that's plenty of moisture
inc. temp.: 84f
fruiting temp: 74f
most people don't bother to heat their fruiting chamber.
(depending upon what room temp is for you.)
it won't be long before you are fed up with perlite.
if you do casings it isn't necessary, and quite frankly, i wouldn't advocate the use of it by anyone.
beat me to it eh.
