I think I remember reading somewhere over a year ago, that black plastic "mortar"? tubs can be purchased at your local hardware store to use as bulk tubs.... My friend needs around 100 of these, or something like it.... Does anyone have any idea as to where he could pick something of that nature up for cheap?..... Thanks in advance brothers and sisters...

Consider 4 x 8 styrofoam sheets, utility knife, construction adhesive, and fiberglass resin !
You figure out the rest !

Hmmmmm. I used to work in a very popular fast food resturant, and the plastic boxes that the meat came in were left outside by the dumpsters (free if you come by after closing hehehe), light proof, about 8-10 inches deep, and about 2 ft. x 3ft. It might be worth snooping around out behing your local fast food resturants to see if they left any goods out back after closing.
Maybe it would be a good idea to make your own shelf system out of some pressure treated lumber, then line the trays with hefty bags or the like for easy clean up.
The local orange store has these mortar mixing tubs you speek of around, and they're not too spendy. Sterilite might be another option since you can get the stuff anywhere. If you could light proof the under the bed boxes, that would be one big casing.

BUS-BOY resturant type black tote tubs are just about best bulk tray that exists. Right size/depth, tougher than rocks & about $6 ea.

They sell the same thing as what agar has pictured at the 99 cents store. The are sold as dishwashing/drying trays. They also sell kitty litter trays. Those would work too. But neither of these are as large as the mixing tubs you are after.
Maybe you friend should consider something smaller as they'd be a huge waste of substrate if they contammed.

That's a very good point. It would suck to have to throw away that much substrate. I hope you have a compost heap full of straw and horse shit to fill all these tubs with. Damn, I wonder how many bales of straw and pounds of horse shit it would take to fill all those up.

i just got my hands on some of these and also one that fits into the bustub with holes drilled in the bottom, an innertub with drain holes. i made my casing in the inner tub and turned another tub upside down as a lid. in the bottom tub i have perlite with a bubler and an air line into the top. it fruited in no time. im working on a second fruit and am looking for as many of these tubs as i can get.
