Absolutly....I use the light that comes from a window clear across the room. They need very little.

reports of mushrooms collected in the wild that were exposed to any direct sunlght at all show that they consistanyly have less of the desired active indoles, often on the order of one-tenth as much.

cubensis is a very forgiving species, and yes a very short exposure to light has been demonstrated to be sufficient to initiate pinset.

there is a big HOWEVER, in my own activities and those of my friends, it has been shown with near scientific reliability that cubies do better with a considerable length of exposure.

i have formulated a rule of thumb, that it should be enough to read by, as though the girls have a reading habit. we have observed that terrariums placed in less light do poorly compared to the others. so to see if they have sufficient light, i place a piece of newsprint near the terrarium and see if i can read it. no more light is required than that, and would probably be detrimental.

we have read excerps from original studies that show that the active indoles break down when exposed to ultraviolet light. i have no way of proving it.

some species may not pinset without a decreasing length of exposure per day, starting at 12 hours per day, according to Stamets.
