For me I would say it was the "North Side" in Pittsburgh. All I saw were condemned buildings, trash, boarded up windows, bars on the non-boarded up windows, billboards advertising people wanted for murder, and menacing looking African-American males standing on the street doing "nothing".
Edit: Tell us why it was shitty. What it looked like and what the "vibe" of the place was.

Probably Paterson, Newark, or Camden in New Jersey.
Detroit's a shit-hole as well.

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about Camden. I've heard people call it "Crackden".
Is it really that bad?

The "other" side of philadelphia...
I've heard that even in the good neighborhoods of Philadelphia, people get shot.
I heard that in Camden, it is not uncommon to be walking down the streets and see syringes and crack vials littering the sidewalks.

IRVINGTON!! has got to be the worst. than newark and asbury park. Jersey has a lot of shitty places

in Irvington, i almost got arrested and almost got killed. the time i almost got arrested wasnt nearly as bad as almost getting killed. both were bad though. i was dumb when i was 17. i dont feel like typing the whole story unless someone wants to know

new orleans is drug capitol as well as murder capitol of top takes the cake....ive seen more drugs here than anywhere and they are so easy to get in new orleans and they projects here are bad...the only thing hard to get right now is acid and thats cause i live outside the city and dont have a ride to shows or raves here

Memphis, TN hands down. North Memphis is probably the roughest part of the city, which is saying a lot because South Memphis has some terrible areas. Memphis in general has some hard ghettos like South Parkway, Orange Mound, etc.
it's consistently in the top 5 worst city crime lists, especially for violent crime (#2 usually) and is in the top cities for burglary and robbery. it's the roughest city I've ever seen, but I haven't been to the worst parts of Philadelphia, D.C., Newark, etc. since I mostly just passed through. I don't doubt the roughness of those cities but think Memphis is just overlooked a lot of times nationally, which allows things to go unnoticed and get worse.
parts of Memphis will eat you alive, especially if you're in the wrong place and don't know anyone. poverty is everywhere and in turn gangs thrive, and the law enforcement and Mayor are corrupt as hell and aren't solving any of the problems. there are some "nice" parts of the city, but overall it's just a big slum. I see it as a continuous downward spiral with a bleak outcome for the majority of its inhabitants. I don't ever want to live anywhere near there again.
