I found an Orange Peel... fungus... (Pics)
    #1355711 - 03/06/03 07:54 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

I always thought it would be cool to find an orange peel fungus... well, I FINALLY found one!! Whats really funny is that I was joking with my friend when I walked by it and I'm like... "Oh theres an orange peel fungus!" Just because I really thought it was someones orange peel.

Upon further inspection I realized that it was really what I wanted it to be!

Hi Angry Shroom, yes Aluria aurantia is a very choice edibole shroom. I eat them in salads and also sautee them in garlic and butter with a tad of lemon juice.

I have no idea where my picture there disappeared to but this is a somewhat old post so i will now repost at least one image of the carrot cup fungi

Well I had several but could only find this one from last fall.

Is Carrot Cup a name you came up with? I can find no references to it. All the references of Aluria aurantia I have ever seen refer to its common name as Orange Peel.

I tried some once and it was for from a choice experience...it tastes a lot like nothing. I looked around for edibility references and found that it is edible but the general consensus is that it is not worth the time to collect or prepare.

To each his own however. I am glad that this fungus has a fan out there.

Joshua

Hi Joshua,

I was first turned on to the mushroom in the late 1970s while collecting P. pelliculosa int he clearcuts of kingston, Washington and the Peninsula.

The person who told me what they were called them carrot cups so i have used that name for them since, although I have seen the name orange peel.\\

Dor me the taste is the texture of the orange peel.

I have also found them in Thailand.
