What are your top 5 trip tunes?
    #386527 - 09/05/01 07:49 PM (22 years, 30 days ago)

Here are my top 5 in no particular order:

1) Enigma - Dream of the Dolphin
2) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Orb remix)
3) BT - Mercury & Solace (Sasha mix)
4) Delerium - Flowers Become Screens (original and Babylon mix are both good)
5) Enya - Storms in Africa

Yeah, I know these are pretty mellow but I'm an old fuck so my middle name is mellow.

So? What are your faves?

With the original, I agree, but with the Orb remix there are so many fucked up sounds and effects in the background, you can get lost in them and not think of the lyrics. Check it out, even just baked it's an awesome tune.

I love pratically every band mentioned above, but I feel so passe when someone turns on Pink Floyd or TOOL during a trip (perhaps I've just jistened to them waaay too much in the past). Here are my five, in no particualr order...
1. Built to Spill- I would hurt a fly (If you haven't heard this band, DOWNLOAD or BUY a CD now! Alternative Spaced-out music at it's finest!)
2. Beck- Woah. That is all I have to say.
3. Radiohead- Paranoid Android
4. ANY BOB DYLAN!
5. Gary Numan- Complex (not a BIG Numan fan, but the song is fucking amazing)

There are so many more though. I really like hearing music I've never heard before, whether it be classical, rock, hip-hop (once you come to appriceate hip-hop, you come to appriceate music). The Toadies are fun for a mind-bending night, and so are the Doors...
Damn I could keep going...

Peace.

it all depends on the substance and the theme of the trip. more often than not I tend to venture into the thick dark parts of tripping so my musical choices would be anything around:
1) Pink floyd Meddle -- especially and foremost, Echoes
2) " " Ummagumma -- CD 2
3) " " Momentary Lapse of Reason

If my theme is happier, then I put Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles into the mix, and whatever I desire, but the top 3 are what I most desire. When I listened to Ummagumma on acid, I journeyed so far into the deep depths of psychedelia that I forgot I had a normal life, but in a good way. I never wanted to leave, it was so beautiful and inviting. The music played along in my head as if I was in a movie and I didn't really notice it was music, it was like a soundtrack for my trip, playing to the visuals

We're all MADD here...

I saw one Jimi Hendrix.Whats up with that.Thats what Hendrixs music was all about capturing that psychadelic experience.Ive never tripped but If I do Im gonna put it the best of Jimi Hendrix and get relaxed.Songs I think would be awesome from Hendrix while trippin would be Castles Made Of Sand (no doubt cause that song just sounds trippy),All along the watchtower,Bold as love,Voodoo Chilld (slight return),Angel.I could go on and on but I dont wanna bore everyone with my fascination with hendrix music.

Voodoo Child, you should be fascinated with Jimi Hendrix. There's no one else like him.He brought a whole new guitar style to rock and roll. He's even better when you're tripping.
I guess my list of songs sorta shows my age,but it's what I've always enjoyed listening too while psychedelidally inclined.I'm gonna give some of ya'll's music a try sometime.Check out these tunes if you haven't;
These are all complete albums I'm talking about, not individual songs.
1- Eat A Peach - Allman Brothers
2- Moonflower - Santana
3- We Sold Our Souls For Rock and Roll - Black Sabbath
4 - Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
5 - With a Little Help From our Friends-Gov't Mule (live)

There's plenty more.I enjoy bluegrass also when I'm in a psych. state of mind.

Has anyone else here listened to Orb's new "Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond the Calls of Duty Vol. 2" yet? It's a pretty neat-o cd, as well as Vol. 1. I don't like them as much sober, but they're the craziest cd's I've heard while tripping. It's mostly mellow ambient music, they kinda just fumble along, just short of producing something that makes sense, and then suddenly they float into some crazy tribal beat or moments a perfectly synchronized noise plethora.

I love most of the bands mentioned above, and have actually listened to quite a few of those albums tripping, but these two Orb cd's are a more enjoyable experience while tripping.

Other than that:

Jimmy Van M - Bedrock (Progressive House)

Phish - The White Tape (Phish's first promo album. Crazy. Available through phish.com only...unless your cd store makes orders through Phish's catalog.)

The Ghost in the Shell - Soundtrack (I'd only suggest it if your trip was taking on a spiritual, or overly Oriental form.)

Medeski Martin and Wood - Last Chance to Dance Trance...(perhaps) (Their greatest hits, and probably the best cd...EVER. And don't even think about arguing with me on this one, you little shits.)

Scattered like soft words
Wield to the storm and fly

2.Phish- A live one (disc one)

Mad props man, I have always thought that selected ambient works II is the best album for tripping, and that this track in particular really gets into every sinew in my body during a trip.
Here are my five in no order:

1) Weather Report- Teen Town
2) Outkast-Da art of storytellin (or anything else from Aquemini)
3) Frank Zappa- Peaches en regalia
4) Radiohead-Amnesiac
5) Aphex Twin- Sel. Amb. Wrks II disc II track 3 or 7.
