I may have been too hasty...

Ok i have Hawaiian colonizing in jars... although compared to the cubensis which I've got going one is hardly colonized at all, the other one I just throw out because I thought that it had bacteria, there was slimy stuff in it and on the bottom of the jar, but when i chucked it I saw that there were signs of mycelium... and it didn't smell bad like the other contaminated jars I've had... Did I throw it out too soon? can you get good slim in grain?

Yes slime can be in a grain jar when too much water is in it, next time try venting the jar and watch closly for the slime turning colors, when too much water is used contamination is a much higher risk, If I suspect a jar is contaminated I isolate it in a separate plastic container and seal it from the rest of my jars until I can be sure

Also I find if I dont shake grain jars a lot during cooldown I get the slime your talking about. during cooldown I shake jars at least 10 times so that the grains soak up all the water.

if u must shake that much, it sounds like you may not have drained them quite long enough before jaring and PCing, but shaking will aid in excess moisture

I use 100ml of grain a two finger pinch of calcium carbonate and 120ml of water, with the calcium carbonate you have to add more water and my grain has been sitting in a shed for about a year so it is very dry thats why I use that much water
