Growth after freezing!!!!
    #3741933 - 02/06/05 06:24 PM (19 years, 20 days ago)

I posted a few weeks ago asking if myc would survive freezing temps. After receiveing mixed responses at best, I decided to do my own experiment. 4 agar plate with good growth were placed into a freezer for 1,2,3,4 days respectively. Upon taking out and placing back into environment of temps 0f 82-86....ALL 4 PLATES resumed growth and are still growing healthily. Hope this answers some questions concerning this matter. Strains were

plate 1------Equador
2------------KSS
3------------KSS
4------------KSS

Just as cold as my freezer which is below 32 whereas the water freezes but I idnt/dont have a thermometer. And yes, I do have plans for future exp regarding longer periods of exposed time. Although I must admit, it makes me sad to think of wasting good cultures of such sweet myc.

I remeber that post , ANNO was also doing some basic research on it. Oh no that was with syringes.
Ya know this draws another question .
I wonder if during the growth of a culture...if one developed some sort of contam growth on the petri ...if freezing it for a few days might kill off the invader leaving behind the myc. Many if not most bacterial invaders can be killed off by freezing them. HUM..... wonder what freezing a casing that has seen some nasties might work hmmmmmmmmm much interesting angles to approach possible ways to kill off contams.
Keep us posted to your findings plz!
