Cap traits for spore selection
    #3861534 - 03/03/05 10:22 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

If I choose to pick certain caps for their traits; and take prints will the future shrooms take on those traits or will they be like every other mushroom from the strain.
(Example. i have these caps with perfect rings of white dots on them and i want my future shrooms to have these same "perfect" traits.) the caps i'm talking about are the one on the far left and the far right.

Sometimes yes this is the case . But after second or third gen that you grow is when I have noticed certain traits come into play.Especially enviro tendencies.
Cloning would be a much more likely way too keep apperances similar.

Those white dots you're referring to are just mycelium on the cap--it goes away upon maturing. That's not a specific trait of that mushroom; it's a growth stage.

You'll need to clone the specific mushroom you're trying to copy with a piece of flesh from the body. Taking a spore print won't achieve that.

Was that what you were looking for? Hope that helped.

trust me it's a trait from the strain. I've been growing SA for about 8 months now and those dots never go away. here are some fully mature south americans

Actually, remnants of the universal veil on the cap will be present with most strains of cubensis. It is not a trait specific to the South Americans. It is a trait that is shared by many cubensis strains...
