i was wondering is sphagnum peat moss was the desired type to use for the 50/50+ casing method. or just the regular kind you buy in bulk.

i have used the stuff that comes in huge plasic bags that look like bales

Sphagnum moss and peat moss are not the same thing. Sphagnum is the moss that hangs from trees in the Old South and peat moss is moss that accumulates on the forest floor in wet northern climates. I suspect sphagnum would have a greater tendency to contam because it is less composted.
