Incubation chamber sterility?
    #3856218 - 03/02/05 10:08 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I'm a little concerned about the sterility of my incubation chamber. Would it be advisable to spray a solution of water and h2o2 within the chamber to be sure everything is clean inside and stays that way? Or might there be a better way? Question about temp and humidity in incubation chamber also. Cant seem to get temp above 81f and I'm using a aquarium heater in a vase so the humidity is in the low 80's too. If I were to add some h2o2 to the vase the heater is in would that, through evap., disperse the hydrogen peroxide into the air? Heh, probably not but I'm a newb and don't know jack about that stuff. All replies greatly appreciated.

Lysol is what you want...spray it then wipe it out good, because if you have too much disinfectant in there it can kill mycellium.

Forgot to mention that the PF cakes are allready in the chamber incubating. Would the lysol do harm to the cakes? Should the jars be removed for sterilizing? Thanks again.

Ok, will remove jars when lysoling. 4 of the jars have nothing covering them, the 4 inco. holes in the lids aren't covered at all. I guess....I should cover them but I have read conflicting stories on that subject. Some say to leave em open and let the jars "breathe" some say cover. So 4 aren't covered and 4 are. So cover or don't cover? Definitely remove jars before spraying lysol even if they are covered?

No straight lysol but do have some lysol air sanitizer, would that work instead of the regular lysol?

Any comments on using the air sanitizer instead of straight lysol?

I use both straight lysol, and the air sanitizer in my incubator with no problems. Good luck!
