It's been my impression that they consider Chavez a "loose cannon" and want him ousted because Washington can't seem to control him. And there's also the fact that his country has all that delicious oil that makes him of particular interest to Bush & Co., IMHO.....

Since Bushie thinks Reagan was such a great man he will follow suit and probably unleash some CIA coup attempt. Then a US friendly dictator who gets off by murdering dissenters will give the only rescources the country has to the WTO for his own personal gain. Of course it'll be trumped up as "another victory for freedom".
Just look at history. LA countries have repeatedly desired socilaism and everytime US intervenes with our tax dollars by buying arms for the elitist opposition.

No, the rest of the world wants to keep North Korea around.

Maybe America just just go ahead then.
I bet that population is so complacent by now, they'd work in sweatshops for .98$ a month for American companies who profit billions. Why should anything be manufactered in the states? American workers want health insurance, houses, proper food, a car, etc. Shareholders and owners would profit much more if they produced goods in nations that have low labour standards, low environmental protections...etc. I bet N Korea could be the new Asain tiger.
Just cuz they don't have oil doesn't mean they shouldn't be liberated. Ol' Bushy and crew just need to think outside the box.

i don't think so. doing that would cause Lula (from Brasil) to have to take a stand. if he sided with the US, then I think a lot of Brazilians would be very pissed off. as well, Frente Amplio in Uruguay (the party currently in power) would be very pissed off. I think an overthrow of Chavez would end up stirring up far more trouble than it would be worth for the US - having Bolivia, Uruguay, and Brazil (not to mention Venezuela) all pissed off at them, it would become more and more difficult to push FTAA bullshit policies...

Well, the real determinant of whether the U.S. will go out and overthrow him, is what it will help us accomplish. Machiavellian politics, in other words, is it more beneficial with him in power atm, or would it be better to setup a puppet to do our bidding? As far as the oil goes, are the willing to trade with U.S.? Resource wars and the nature of them are determined by this, and whether we are gaining access to it or not.

I doubt it....the CIA may try to do something, but that's it. With Iraq, we can't invade another country, no matter how much macho talk our government does. Speaking of this, I find the tough talk against Syria, North Korea and Iran highly amusing; the US doesn't have a leg to stand on, and everyone, the gov. of those countries in particular know this. Our forces are stretched way to thin....another example of why the war in Iraq was a bad idea, we can't take any action anywhere else, and this knowledge has given countries like Syria, North Korea and Iran a lot of courage/confidence.

Hopefully......you never know though. As much as I dislike Bush & his administration, I have to believe that he realizes starting shit in another country now would mean the end of us.
