what ho all:)
haven't been around on a regular basis for coupla years or so, which is how long or even longer my agar wedge bank has been sitting in my fridge.
anyhoo, round about xmas I decided to see if there was still any life in any of my old 2 faves(mexi-cub and mazatapec), the oldest of which was dated July 02.
inocculated(sp) 2 jars of peroxidated millet, and both jars showed growth within a week! was pleasantly surprised:)
got my first flush of mexis 2 weeks ago, 1oz dry, nice:)
maz's took a bit longer to recover, but finally got a good pint of millet for spawning purposes a couple of days ago.
just goes to show, agar wedges last a lot longer than you might have been led to believe....

I agree 100%.  I think many peeps underestimate the longevity of agar cultures, and refrigerated mycelium in general.  I've had great success reviving agar cultures over two years old, and have even successfully used fully-colonized grain spawn that was refrigerated for nearly six months.

I think that you can get some suprising results so long as you do your mycelial culturing/transfers in a meticulously clean manner and store them in a nice, cold, constant environment.  :syringe:

The agar had probably dried completely out. Dry mycelium can recover and grow again. It's how wild mushrooms can survive several years in a row of drought. I actually think dry mycelium will outlast spores.
