This is my first attempt at growing, and so far so good.
I innoculate the jars and after 20 days i'm almost at 100% colonization. I jars were getting light at first but i realized this was wrong, cause a few jars started pinning. My terrarium is built, with expection to the wire rack on the bottom.
I'm using a ultrasonic humidifer setup with four 2 liter jars, and a large rubbermaid box. I put weatherstrip sealing around the edge of it, and cut a couple holes in the lid to let light in. The box is dark which i am hoping will reduce the shrooms growing sideways. I put lexan panes over the holes I cut and a large plexiglass sheet as the drip shield.
I am about to birth these babies, and I want to make sure I'm not screwing up too badly.
The Temperature is about 74 +/- 1 degree. Very consistent.
When I open the lid on the box, the air inside is FOGGY. is this ok?
There is a little condensation on the floor of the terrarium, no sign of it on the lid. Will lexan / plexiglass work as a shield? Could it just still have residue on it that I didn't get?
One other question. What is an alternative for the jar lid when birthing them. I heard some people saying that metal lids could rust and possibly contaminate them. I also saw a picture of someone using what looked like plastic almost honey comb type material.
Anyone have any ideas here? Why do you elevate them anyways, what's the purpose? Maybe I could think of a good alternative If I understood the reason behind it.
Thanks,
Shroomarium
I'm new sorry if i sound it

Sound like your doing just fine. Very informative...thats good.
Keep up the good work!
If your interested, I have plans and pics. on constructing the SHROOM-CAPSOLE. This terr. resembles the h-pod. Works very well, and leaves all the guess work out of growing.
plans and pics. or free (have to keep a promise). pm me if you want these, w/ your e-mail.
GOODLUCK! and welcome to the family :)

I think "foggy air" may be a lil bit to much humidity. For cakes i think u want like 90-95% humidity. Casings like 80%. Although i always just judge the humidity from the water beading on the sides of the container. It also depends on what kind of humidity u have in yer area. Ohio summertime is kinda humid.

Id suggest casing rather than birthing the cakes - better yields and you dont seem to run into as mant contaminants.

I got a humidity gauge, and it reads 90%.
I'm anxious

Ya growing shrooms is the best hobbie. Cuz the grow rather quick, and u can see changes in hours. My mistakes at first was that i was too anxious and rushed stuff. Sounds like your on the ball with things tho.
