Do you wish agriculture had never been taken up? I do.

Ah, to live in a shack on a slagheap outside a steel mill. Working hard breaking your back all day to be a hard and filthy man in the mill where the pig iron furnaces run so hot it makes a man forget his fear of hell. Wouldn't that be the life of Riley... Take care, RG

I was thinking more along the lines of still being a hunter-gatherer. Not some brass eating bufoon. On average those guys do 20 hours of work a week. Then they just dick around the rest of the time. 20 hours of work for food, clothing, shelter. 20 hours for their needs. They spend the rest of the time enjoying life.

Never invented agriculture? Dont be fucking stupid! what the fuck are people going to eat!?!!! Guess we should stop buying farmed food and kill wild animals then? Technophobia does no-one any favours, you may have some bullshit nostalgic notion about things being purer and better in the past but the truth is that we are healthier, wealthier and longer lived than any other generation in history. You take for granted the comforts and health that technology has given you and you only see the bad side. Instead of the dove as the symbol of peace we should have a pillow. Its got more feathers but doesnt have that nasty sharp beak......Edited by madscientist on 09/05/01 02:52 AM.

Wasn't agriculture developed because it's easier than the hunter/gatherer life? Having the food growing on farms is much easier than going looking for it in the woods. I think the problem is not with agriculture, but with society and capitalism as a whole. It would be more feasable for everyone to own a piece of land, which they farm themselves to produce food or goods to barter, rather than returning to hunting/gathering. The problem with reverting to the hunter/gatherer way of life is that there are so bloody many of us now, that in no time we'd have hunted all the aminals, and gathered all the plants, and then we'd be forced back to eating brass again. Take care

Yup, but we cant all be farmers. Some of us will have to be emplloyed with, for example, making plowshares... Hence farming soon becomes a specialised occupation, supplying cities with food and the cities in turn supply the farmer with all his other needs. This is why things are the way they are. By the way, subsistance farming is a cruel, harsh way to eek a living...... just ask the third world peasants. Big commercial farms are far more efficient.
