Dunno, I just seen petri dishes on ebay made from it so I was wondering cuz they were already opened.

I checked it out. Apparently there are two grades of polystyrene, one rigid, one foam. I would imagine (pure speculation) that the rigid variety could withstand a pressure cooker (as in the petri dish example).
