Spore health

I was just wondering if anybody here would be able to tell me at what temperatures the typical cubensis spore will become non viable (too hot, too cold). Also I was wondering what their shelf life is after they've been sitting in a sterile water solution?

The reason I'm asking the above is because I prepared my substrate and inoculated last week, Thursday night I think, and it's now Tuesday evening and I have no mycelium to speak of. Another possibility is the varying temperature in my room. It usually sits around 68-70F but I've devised a very low tech incubator that keeps the jars at around 80-86F. That being said, it's very low tech and I worry about it catching fire so I turn it off when I leave for the day. :p

Any thoughts would be awesome.

106 degrees fahrenheit is thermal death for spores. There is no such thing as too cold. In a sterile water solution, their shelf life should be around 6 months, tops.

If you keep fluctuating your temperature like that, it'll never grow. Build a lost cost incubator. Do a search for a TiT (tub-in-tub incubator).

Thanks for the prompt reply. I just noticed some mycelium near the top of a few of my jars today, I looks like I may have inoculated my protective barrier of vermiculite. :\

What would you guys say the minimum incubation temperature would be? I've read 68F and 72F ... I know it depends on the strain... But is there a median or average temperature?
