I think people need the info below to make a positive ID. so you might wanna try to get that info.

Quote:

II. Accurate mushroom descriptions

It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.

A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable.

Along with the pictures (if possible), please include the following:

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
f. Spore print color (very important!)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises
h. Scent of mushroom

For more detailed guidelines for describing your finds, please view this document.

For an explanation of mycological terms please refer to this document .

What color did the mushroom bruise if it did, and what does it smell like? I'm sorry I don't know enough about mycology to help you ID these but hopefully all the extra info I get ya to post will help someone more knowledgeable in this field to ID them for you without having to go through all this.

I'm guessing that the gills were actually not touching the stem, and I bet they are turning pink by now?

Your mushroom appears to be a member of the Genus Pluteus, probably P. cervinus.

That looks like Pluteus cervinus.

If you cut the cap in half, you should be able to verify that the gills are not attached to the stem. Also, it should have been growing from dead wood that was well rotted. Finally, there should not be any change of color when bruised.

Happy mushrooming!
