Metalic Meat thermometers - Accurate?
    #3851384 - 03/01/05 10:24 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Ya know the $3-5 meat thermometers Walmart or similar stores sell?

Are they very accurate?

accurate enough to pasturize with?

Thx

Why would you need a thermometer for pasteurization, does your stove not have a control dial?

My stoves control dials go hi med and low, theres no "Pasteurize" or "160 degrees" setting I've seen  My hot plate too... has temp readings but set it at 160 degrees F and good luck ever getting the water to that temp. Same when you do it in the oven. Sorry I dont know if they are good. I picked up a digital one off ebay for 10 bucks and a metal one in the store..metal took to long to get up to higher temps so I never even used it. Digital one is great though..

I think mine works pretty good. i'm not a robot so i don't have my own built in thermometer or anything that would say otherwise.

Just test the metal one in a glass of cold, warm, and hot water along with the digital one. Whatever it's off, correct for. I've got the same one you've got probably. It is possible to twist the probe and have it be off where you read the temp(on the metal one).
