UK Control Orders
    #3851201 - 03/01/05 11:21 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

The UK government, under a bill put forward by the home Secretary Charles Clark, wish to grant themselves the power to restrict movement and access to communication of individuals deemed to be a threat. This has met stiff opposition from opposition parties and civil rights groups.

The power to detain and/or restrict will be in the hands of a politician (Home Secretary), and in most cases is not open to judicial review (although under pressure small concessions have been made in the case of detention).

The reason for a control order does not have to disclosed, its very hard to defend yourself if you don't know what your accused of.

These orders can be maintained indefinitely and are in most cased not open to Judaical review or appeal.

Do you think its right for a politician to have such powers in a democracy?

See, if the law were in place we wouldn't have to listen to stiff opposition from these opposition parties that oppose non-opposition.

I don't think it is right for a politician to have such powers in any form, democracy or other.
