I need to throw my two cents in. Coarse verm can throw your moisture content way off. (too wet) Also, it's about useless as a contam barrier. The solution, make it finer in a blender. Be careful as a blender can turn it to powder in just a few seconds. By the way, the coarse stuff is great for casing.

So it would be okay to use the thicker grade on the bottom as well as the substrate, fine grade for ramsey seal. How can thicker verm. chunks throw my water content up the shit? does it hold too much?? Thanx for the help anyway guys.

It doesn't hold enuf water. Try this, measure a cup of the coarse, blender it and measure again. See?

i think the fine grade shit sucks as a contam barrier because it moves around too much..you get some mold spores in your innoculation holes and they work their way in easily

Well I've got the coarse stuff here, and I do mean coarse. It's as effective as a sceen door at stopping contams.

Yeah cheers - i just tried to use thicker grade and fine grade - 250ml with 120 ml water in each - i had about 30ml residue down the bottom of the bowl with the thick grade, so it doesnt retain water as well!! Shit, my friend got me 100 litres of the shit!! Where's my blender??
