can i just use vermic as a caseing or does someone recommend something else this is my first time and how many pf cakes should i use by crumbling

Since it's your first time, may I suggest you leave the cakes intact, and simply use 1/8" to 1/4' of moistened vermiculite on top. You can use a second casing layer on the dish below the cake for what's known as 'double end casing'. Good luck.
