Anybody here do a dry run first?
    #3845957 - 02/28/05 11:36 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, im so stoked about growing I cant even see straight. Yes i know patience young man, patience. But am I crazy for doing a dry run?

I have my set up, and i was thinking about seeing if i could keep the temp/humidity at what it needs to be for a week before actually doing a grow.

I really want to learn how to do this, and I can wait a week or two to make sure that my set up works fine.

Or should I just go for it and see what happens. Maybe my OCD makes me overaly cautious, or maybe this damn coffee just makes me hyper.

My girlfriend hates that I havent even started yet and i constantly am spraying the house with lysol and chace our friends around with rubbing alchol. Damn OCD.

Absolutely not, in fact I'm thinking you're the first person to ever follow my advice on that (but it appears this time is was your idea), when doing more advanced culturing techniques, I found it to be almost indispensible in helping
to prevent contams, my very first PF grow may not haev suffered 80% losses had
I thought to practice a little beforehand.

you get 5 shrooms from me..

That fucking awsome you have the Dakota Digital Hack on your sig.

I fucking worked at the place that sold those things, and we would see stoners come in and buy 20 of those things to make there little digital cameras.

Never did try to make one. I guess my canon 1D mark II and 20D make me happy.

I agree with prisoner, but you need to get your priorities straight.

You don't even need to be clean until after the pressure cooking is finished. If you're rubbing everything down, that's time spent you could be making jars and then cleaning while they cool & then colonize.

Same for temp/humidity, you can get that worked out while the jars colonize. As for the temp in the incubation chamber, I seriously doubt you'll cook them to death (newbs have exaggerated that threat here) and if it's too low, you'll just slow their growth.

The time for your OCD is when you innoc them, after that you don't have to worry until birth.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..."

I put it there after I checked to be sure the hack worked, it's not bad for a
1.5mp camera, and at $12, it's well worth it since developing on a roll of film
runs about $8 and the film is $2 already... I use a Sony F-828 currently, that
only because my Nikon D1 got stolen last year.

actualy I believe he;s doing fine as is, the pre-cleaning is simply going to help matters, it reduces things in the air as well as surfaces

The cleaner your house is, the cleaner your grow will be. All counters and surfaces in your house should be wiped down at least every time you make up jars. As long as its once a week or less frequent, cleaning is a good thing to do.

   Excellent idea my friend!  Very respectable that you have the patience to make sure everythings right before you start up.  Trust me when I say that this hobby never loses the excitement... Six months later you'll still be going "Ooh, ooh I just innoced!  Ooh, ooh they're starting to colonize!.... Ooh, ooh I see primordia!!!  Ooh, ooh, who wants to test these babies out!?!?!"  I'm sure you will do very well, as you can see above my avatar OCD ain't so bad with this hobby   GL to ya, and 5 shrooms to go with it :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2:

getting your stuff up and running in my opinion is very important. i like to suggest making two extra jars and not innoculating them. put holes in them and wrap them as your others, pc them and incubate them. if you get growth in these two jars you have a contamination problem. if you have no growth in these two jars and growth in your other jars --- congrats! its 99% to be mycelium growth. YOu can avoid the whole stage of saying is this mycelium or contamination.
