Most likely you viewed some specie of Stropharia which resemble Psilocybe cubensis. Cubensis do not grow in California unless in someones attic, cellar/basement, etc.
It is basically a trropical and subtropical species which grows primariolly int he manure of most four-legged ruminants, cows, buffalos, and some times horse manure.

Morew than likely, You will never find any mushrooms in manure heaps in southern california which are psilocybian. 99.999998 chances are no and never.
Maybe some Panaeolus castaneifolius in lawns, but those odds are also very rare. I only found them one time in my entire life of hunting.
Now they could be in someones closet.

Not necessarily, mj. Remember that monsterous pile of manure that angryshroom found that was just LOADED with Panaeolus subbalteatus. That was in Southern Cali.
If he's gonna find any active in SoCal, it'd be Pan subbs. Cubes would be a big never though.

Angry Shroom picked those Panaeolus subbalteatus near Sacremento not in Southern California.
mj
And Joshua's lawn of Panaeolus subbalteatus was, I think, in Eugene, Oregon or near there somewhere.

Semiglobata, common in pasturelands in the Monterey Bay. Many confuse these for Cubensis...
They typically grow out of cow pies... they are not psychoactive, and generally not edible.

Probably nothing at all. However, my above post did mention
