are my mushrooms rotting in the dessicant chamber? some of them have turned a stale yellow, like the yellow of rotten teeth, and they are mushy on the inside but dry on the outside. shouldn't they be white? and i also put them in front of a fan for about half a day before sticking into the dessicant chamber

Did you cut them into a few slices before you dried them, You can stll cut them up so they will dru faster. How long has it been since you picked them? If they are really wet in the center put them on a fan.

I would elave them in front of the fan a bit longer at elast a day if posible. Also how long have they been in the desicant chamber? more than 2 or 3 days? If so is the desicant old? is the lid on air tight? where they kept in a real cold place (fridge). Also when drying my stems get a bit yellow teh tops are more brown. the only part that is real white is where the fluff grew at the base. L3D

doesnt sound good, the yellow i mean. HQ air dries for a few days (just left out in the open on some newspaper) and they get pretty dry- still bendy though. then they go into the drying chamber, and get snapcrackly in about 12-24 hours. then the finished product gets stored with some silica gel packs...

HI Wind, I dont know if your shrooms ar rotting, i wouldnt give up on em just yet. I can tell you when I have had occasion to see a shroom dry, it was bluish to greyish. I have not seen yellow. Take the other members suggestion, cut up shroomies into thin slices, lets the air in, moisture out. I read somewhre to think of a shroom as a sponge, the thicker it is, the more water it holds. But, as always, use your head, if they smell rotten, or you get a bad feeling, dont eat em. Id rather lose a few cubies than have to explain to the Paramedic why I cant stop throwing up and shitting at the same time! Good luck! -DCC
