Will this work
    #3841507 - 02/27/05 03:57 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I just did this for fun to see if it will work I went to walmart and bought a pyrex 1.75 qt bowl and decided to make one big pf cake lol well I filled it up tell there was one inch left then i put dry verm the rest of way Then I took the lid and made 10 needel sizes holes all around the lid Going to use 1/2 cc per hole, total cc be 5 cc then i took tyvek and left 1 inch over hang over the conatier put lid on then took the strongest duct tape made and wrapped it all the way around the lid so it won't come off Then I covered the bowl and lid with foil all the way around. Took 4 1/2 pint jars empty and put in my pc and set the conatiner on it Going to pc at 15 psi for 1 hour. The contianer is not touching sides So u guys think this work before I shoot it up ?

Hey jackel,

If I am reading this right, you are making one giant cake nearly 2 quarts in volume, right? I suggest saving your spores my friend, and dividing that up into several 1/2 pint jars ala PF Tek. A cake of that volume just will not work, sorry.

A substrate that large will take forever to colonize and will probably contaminate before it ever finishes.

its good you are being creative, but the bigger the mass is the longer it would take to colonize, and im not sure and maybe someone wiser can correct me if i'm wrong but it seems like by the time that whole thing colonized the myc. will have used up all the nutrients or most of them and there will be a very poor yield if one at all.

Getting a mass that size to colonize wouldn't be too difficult, but utilizing all that surface area for fruiting would be. 1/2 pint jars would be much more effective.
