Psilocybin cubensis strain characteristics
    #3840957 - 02/27/05 11:45 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Is there a list or link for complete characteristics of all the strains of cubensis (i.e. fast to colonize, better in warmer temps, etc..)? If so, any help givin to me to find this information will be apprieated. If not, why not collectively make one?
Thanks

It's fun for advertising appeal to give each strain its own unique characteristics, and most of them do indeed have individual traits, but the problem lies in variables across the board of each different grower, and the conditions they provide.

I might have a strain of GT that colonizes "super fast" and fruits "prolifically", but this could very well be a result of my own refined growing techniques. Substrate, conditions, bulk substrate, all the factors. You could turn around using spores from by batch and be very disappointed, seeing slow colonization times and spotty fruiting.

Because of the lack of a steady constant in growing conditions, I don't think their separate traits will ever be an accurate way of categorizing them. i.e. fast fruiters, slow fruiters.

That's just my .02 on why there is no comprehensive list of cubensis strain characteristics.

Look in the search and draw your own conclusions.

And this thread is a good read...pay attention to what Anno says.

Roadkill, thanks for the link to anno's post. And I do understand how difficult it would be to comprise a list of scientificly proven charactarisitics for diferent cubes. Yet, I still believe there are differences. And I believe allot of people have info of specific strains that other people would find educatational. So why not start a thread with this intent? Just a thought.
Thanks

I Copied and pasted a very good post by Anno...for you to read.

Anno said:
Certainly there are differences.
But you can not reliably predict and say this strain has these and those characteristics.
There are too many variables that play a role:

strain origin (major factor!)
strain freshness
strain isolation
substrate composition (major factor!)
substrate pH
water content
incubation temperature
air exchange
casing materials (major factor!)
casing pH
casing moisture
fruiting temperature
fruiting humidity
light

All those factors(and probably 100 others I left out) make it nearly impossible to answer the question about "what characteristics does the strain xxx have?"

I have to agree with Anno...for the most part on this.

----

Some strains do have a distinctive cap shape to them.

The "A" strain does very well in warmer temps...so you might want this strain for the coming summer months, for outdoor grows.

The Orissa India can produce the largest fruits...at least from what I have seen...if your growing conditions are just right.

I have had certain strains that seem to give better yeilds...but I need to do more research before jumping to any kind of conclusions.
But I will say that the South American and Brazilian strains have been very very good to me...as far as yeilds.

And I don't even want to get into the different kind of trips debate.
lolzz

good luck!~

Since I have not grown any of these strains personally, take this as it is. From some research on the internet I have narrowed down 3 particular strains that seem to fit my interests. Those being a fast and hardy colonizer(i.e. contam resistance), easily fruited, and large yields. The Amazonian, Cambodian, and Tasmanian. Everyone has an opinion and I'd like to know what you think.

A cubie name is a cubie name. You cant tell anything about how they'll grow by their name. They'll all grow differently but you never know where your genetics came from compated to others or how your conditions vary from others. Those three strains will all make fine choices. I've personally grown two and one of them is my favorite of all 14 I've grown. I'm not telling you which though
