Thats beautiful man. I love vivariums. Lots of work keeping every thing inbalance. Thats a huge axolotl. Ever breed them?

to keep one healthy you'll need 10 gal minimum per axolotl, and at that ammount youll need weekly or bi weekly water changes. you cant have a current so forced filtration is out of the question, and you must keep the water below 23 degrees C. actually 15-18 is ideal. this is much harder than it sounds. the water should be hard and the food fresh and preferably alive and meaty, ie, fish, earthworms.
and odds are youll get infections that need treatment in which cae youll always want to have a tub handy that you can keep cold and have another one handy for salt baths.

i dont have these problems very often, and tend to administer treatment as a precautioary measure at the first sign of stress or discomfort.

but then i put newts in the tank too and they very often come with diseases, from now on im not buying the damned things unless they are captive bred. i just lost a pachytriton to a massive rot infection that came in on some cheap firebellies. technically you shouldnt mix animals at all, this problem however was caused by poor quality control, not mixing. i have good luck with mixing, doesn't mean you also will.

well, i have a large tank that is full cycled, planted, supplemented, etc.
just starting up, for a begginer, yes, it would be challenging to keep an axolotl healthy
