how long?
    #3838787 - 02/26/05 09:57 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

i was wondering how long it usually takes for a Quart jar of WBS to fully colonize using liquid culture?

Also, what do you guys usually do when theres a bit of uncolonized grain around the bottom of the jar after 3 weeks?

Finally, is it normal to have the mycelium take over the grains to the point where it is impossible to shake the grains loose?

thankS!!

too many variables - but on average 2 weeks, give or take. maybe 1.5 if using liquid.

Uncolonized grain? Turn up side down, get cake to the bottom of jar. Leave for 1.5-3 hours. Enough for gas exchange to take place. Then turn back over. Everytime I do that, the mycelium finish the last little bit.

Yes, usually after half of the sub. is colinized, it forms a strong network beyond breaking up by gentle shaking. Is ok though...

absolutely forever, but thats because I'm impatient... I've had it fully
colonized in 3 weeks, thats with my nrmal wait the extra 4 to be 100% sure its ready

wait longer, sometimes turn it on its side so it feels 'different'

because he's impatient. if he ignores it a little longer it will be done, he may
also have a problem with gas exchange or possibly even a bacterial contam.
lets hope it's not that one
