My special little package arrived today!! Have a few questions though. The cakes that I mead ahead of time have kinda shrunk in from the glass and some of the top layer of Verm. has made its way down the sides of the cakes. Was wondering if this would be a problem or not. Could it be that the cakes are to dry or is that caused by the pressure cooking? When inoculating should I avoid letting the solution drip down the side of the cakes and inject directly into the substrate? If need be I can try and get a PIC posted of what the cakes look like in the jars. Maybe I shouldn't inoculate those and re-do them? Regardless its inoculation time baby!

Any particular reason you say I should redo them? I mean I trust that what you say is what you believe should be done but would like to know exactly why? Thanks for your reply = )

they sound dry. If they have shrunk then they are prolly too dry to inoc. How long did you let them sit?

Yeahh and water content is infamous for just halting colinizing. Doesnt Anno have a fool proof way?

They have been sitting in a cooler for 3 days. No signs of any contams or anything but the cakes definitely shrunk. I was thinking they were probably drying out but there is an all but air tight seal at the lid. Least there should be an all but air tight seal. When the cakes were made I followed the PF tek and did sorta feel that not enough water was used in the process. Used 1/2cup water per 1pnt jar.

If they are shrinking I think you would want to redo them, its up to you tho.

Garrrrr! Lol, but why? Have you even run into this shrinkage effect? Does 1/2cup of water seem like to little for a 1pnt jar/mix? Whats this fool proof method consist of? Thanks again.

Will stall or stop growing for lack of water.Cakes shrink all the time.That's way they come out of the jar so easy.
Three days is not to long to let jars set but should not have any shrinkage.The shrinkage should start when almost to fully colonize.
You may have to play around with water content but the pf tek will get you very close.My 1st two grows did nothing.I belive this was due to bad water content.Had to muck water.
