Bob is curious if these are pins or something else. Pics.
    #3837248 - 02/26/05 03:53 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Bob is growing Orissas and had put his casing into his PMP a few days ago. He's got this growth on them now that he guesses are pins. He just has never seen them grow like that. Every other time pins have showed up, they started out as little balls and not "mini upside down isicles". Sorry the pics are blurry.

So what do the experts think?

Yea looks like rhizos to me too, but pic isn't very good... Here's a pic of some casing I've got with alot of rhizos, if it looks like that then you'll know... :stoned:

Tough to tell with that tiny little pic. Could be aborts. Do they have any light to grow towards? You're using bubble wands for humidity and air circulation? Make sure there isn't any mineral buildup on the bubble wands preventing sufficient bubbles. You can clean them with a wire brush when you clean up the PMP. Make sure you rinse out the bleach good when sanitizing your PMP because bleach, lysol, and iso. can all greatly increase the numbers of aborts and mutants.

Get a bigger pic and it'll be easier to help. I'm just taken' guesses right now.

Did you start this casing from a multi-spore culture or from a clone? I have seen one multi spore culture casing that had no real heads to speek of, just a big mess of stems. We attributed this to excessive lysol use in close proximity to the PMP, but we kind of think it might have just been a mutant strain that developed from the multi-spore culture. I have not seen that problem sense.

Just wait and see what happpens over the next week or so.

It's definately rhizos then. It looks just like those pics. Bob has never had that though.
1)What exactly is it(defintion/description)?
2)And it's a good thing?
3)Why wouldn't previous grows have had it?
Thanks for the info.

Rhizomorphic is a growth pattern of good healthy mycellium. Certain strains are more prone to rhizomorphic growth. It may be your strain, your conditions, or just that the mycellium growth is more aggressive for any number of reasons.
