preventing overlay - fruiting on sides of casing
    #383390 - 09/01/01 03:48 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I have read many past posts and researched about overlay but still have some confusion. Should you let any growth reach the top before initiating pinning? If not, then how does the mycelium receive the light to initiate pinsets?
I tried to initiate pinning when I first saw growth on top but now 5 days later about %70 top layer is colonized and I just now this morning have pins forming everywhere. I have already pulled 4 small fruits from the sides of the casing in 2 days.
Why is the side producing fruits before the top has pins?
I dont want to deep scratch now because I finnaly have pins everywhere.

Because they are the ones that are getting air. Your casing layer may have become matted/or dry.

It could also be that his container is translucent and getting some light as well

Good question. I'd like to know the answer to that one too. I have a FOAF who is currently having problems with uneven flushing.
