Birdseed Question
    #383283 - 09/01/01 11:31 AM (23 years, 20 days ago)

My friend innoculated some pint jars of penningtons bird seed about 3 weeks ago......2 jars survived(others lost to contams)...they have colonized all but about the top inch or so and have really slowed down now...shouldnt they have fully colonized by now?

Sometimes it takes a little longer for birdseed to colonize. Try flipping your jars upside down; usually this helps. If you don't see any more growth over the next several days, just take the cakes out and put them in your grow chamber. (Casing is a safe bet when you're taking out cakes that haven't completely colonized.)

Well my friend went ahead and cased one of the jars with just verm.....it seemed very dry....so could he inject a little sterile water in the other to give it some extra moisture?
Also can he just set the casing in his terrarium? Will it be ok and when could he expect pinning to start....the terrarium maintains 82-87% humidity and 75-80 degree temps....
thanks for any help you guys can give my friend...
