Waking Life
    #3831370 - 02/25/05 03:13 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I absolutely love this movie, and I saw it was on TV today on one of the movie channels, I felt compelled to start a thread about it.

Anyone else feel like this movie deserves more modern recognition than it gets? A true masterpiece in my eyes...

Awesome movie, I recommend it to everyone.  Take some shrooms and when you start to lift off, watch Waking Life.  It's amazing.

That's been on my to-do list for years.

Why doesn't that list ever get shorter?

A boy is on a bus, he falls asleep.
The rest of the movie is a twisty psychedelic dream using animation-over-digital-film that makes everything wobby and very much liek a psychedelic experience. He goes through wild settings meeting random people with whom he has deep, philosophical conversations.

Including Tim Speed Levitch, one of my favorite people.

i concur, def. a one of a kind movie.

but on shrooms i could never concentrate on just a movie for an hour and a half, let alone follow what goes on in that movie. those conversations get so deep and sober they are over my head.

I've tried tripping for Waking Life before, and usually the problem isnt keeping up with the conversations but not initiating my own and missing the rest of the film. By the way Richard Linklater (the director) has wrapped up a Philip K. Dick adaptation that uses the same rotoscoping technique, it's called A Scanner Darkly.

My budddy ate a 1/4 and freaked out. We really almost had to duct tape him and drag him in the basement. It was a crazy time baby sitting his ass!

I also like the movie a lot!

Tried to watch that movie while I was tripping, but I ended up getting frustrated, arguing with the TV and turning it off in like 15 minutes. I don't doubt that I'd like it under normal circumstances though.

Weren't they working on another film similar to Waking Life. Perhaps it was just the same director, but I remember hearing somthing of the likes.

It's an amazing movie. I wish it would be releaed in the theaters. But most people only want to see mindless action movies; too bad, their missing out.

Ehh, it was cool.  I was in the wrong frame of mind -- drunk, bout to pass out..i just saw that as an annoyingly long-winded, preachy movie that rambled far too long

  I'll give it another go, this time in a dif. mindset
