First off, the computer is the dumbest machine on the earth. It is the fastest adding machine in the world. The Computer must Add 3 times to Subtract once. The Things that make computers, computers is the software that runs it. The Developers of the software do have instincts in fact they are animals.. so i dont c where your really getting at here.

Activity could be a form of life, it all depends on where you draw the line.
Computers might be considered alive, but not yet evolved enough to consciously interact with humans.

listen brotha, computer is absolutelty nothing. the computer can only do what you make it do. the computer is incredibly fast and capable of doing many things but can only work at the pace of humans. and when it comes to advancing in years, they are already making processors etc but none that can run on any motherboard. the processor works at optimum speed when it is 3-4x faster than the bus. any faster is un noticed. now on the subject of humans, we were not created by any alien nor god. we evolved like everything else on this earth. when the planet was created, storms and heat conquered the earth and small bacteria and ameoba lived in primordial soup. years and years later the earth cooled, bacteria and ameoba evolved, plants were born, reptiles, and slowly but surely here we are. we can create computers and destroy them, they will never be more powerful than us.

How did you possibly learn that humans don't have instincts? One of the many things a brand spankin new baby can do is locate and use a female nipple. It's called rooting. Did someone teach him that? No. The baby knows exactly how to find the nipple and how to use the nipple from the moment it is born. It can also grasp things from the moment it is born. There are alot of other things babies can do but those are the two I can think of.

Of course humans have instincts. Try looking at someone who is drunk as shit some time. These people are totally idiotic, working on alot of instincts/lack of upper level rationality.

And for the computer thing. First off, computers really are dumb. Obviously they can't do anything but process a string of instructions written by someone else. Not only are they dumb, but current technology still can't make a supercomputer that is as fast as a brain. I believe the brain can do something like 2^(10x10^17 ) different possible states, which is absurd. It will take many many years just for a computer to reach the raw SPEED of the brain, and that's just a break in the ice. Just because it's as fast as a brain won't make it intelligent. Then you have to understand how the human brain makes use of it's sensory inputs to give it some kind of self-awareness, or a bearing of what/where it is. Not only THAT, but you at least need to give it a sensory input! THEN you have to solve the hardest part, program a symbolic mind. Allow it to learn and understand symbols, not just it's immediate instructions. It needs to understand what something IS when it isn't there and understand how it can be used when it is there.

The task of AI is impossibly complex at the moment. The first step to creating an AI is to understand I.
