How does one fall in love exactly? I see it happening all the time.

It's one of those things where looking for it makes it impossible to find. It finds you. And you'll know it when it does...

Love is nothing but a chemical reaction in the brain that compels us to reproduce. It's one of nature's defenses against free will.

But to fall in love is very different than the 'urge to merge'. Of course everyone has a sex drive. But I've found that products of the sexual revolution are either interested only in getting laid, or they're looking for a long-term relationship. And here we have two extremes. When two people are in love they live almost ecstatically in the moment - in the face of eternity. They naively assume that their love will be forever. At the opposite end of spectrum you got people who want, to put it bluntly, a few pumps and a splash.

So what is love?

I want to know why its called falling when being in love feels more like flying or floating up, hense the expression sighed by one in love, "I am on cloud 9"

Does the falling expression have to do with the gravitational pull of attraction between two bodies of mass?

I don't get the falling word.

Falling is a weighty feeling of becoming heavier and floating is a feeling of becoming lighter.

One is being pulled in by gravity and the other is a release from the pull of gravity.

Maybe some people feel like they are floaty falling like a wafting of sorts, I dunno.

I believe chemicals in the brain are released which creates a strong lasting attraction to a member, usually of the opposite sex, which creates stronger physical sensations and a happiness of life to live with them also. Extremely useful for survival in most cases, as they are passionate towards each other, bear children that they stay together to raise, and live in a general happy ambience if it lasts, which rubs off on the children.

In many cases it's only temporary though, and makes one wonder if it was love or strong lust that brought two people together, seeing as 50% of marriages end in divorce here.

Most people cannot tell the difference between romantic love and companionate love. It's sad, and probably one of the main reasons why most marriages end in divorce.

fascination
& pleasure
& reciprocity
this can loop for up to 3 months

then you have to see if a relationship is worthwhile

I don't think the notion of "true love" means anything. Sure there are degrees of love, I can love someone more than someone else, but there is no clearly-defined border where love becomes "true love" or "in love" as it is otherwise put.
