Will an extra ten days hurt my fully colonized substrate jars>?
    #3827354 - 02/24/05 02:40 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Hey whats going on, I am leaving tommarow for ten days but do not want to put my fully colonized jars in a birthing chamber, since noone will be around to take care of them. I was wondering if an extra ten days at room temp. might put them at any sort of risk. I figured it would probly be good, the extra ten days, because the mycelin can get a little stronger. What do you guys (and girls) think?
Chris

You didn't pick a very good time to leave. i think they would be ok as long as they don't pin inside the jar. whatever happens Good Luck

How long can they survive in the substrate jars without pinning? and after they pin do you still birth them the same?

As long as they're under incubation parameters, they won't start pinning...ever. You birth them first, and then they pin.

One time a FOAF had some jars. He used some while they were fresh as cakes and got some shrooms. he left some for a while (about a month or two) and then cased them. Those shrooms were much much much STRONGER. The original cakes you had to eat like 5 grams for a good trip. The ones that he waited longer with you could eat 2 grams and go nutz. Note: Corrallation does not imply causation. It might have been caused he cased them but i think the extra month of chillin let them build up some uber alkaloids in the cakes. FOAF is going to purposely leave his next jars for a week or two after they look done. After they look done they wont get contams until you open them. Just make sure they dont drop below 70 degress F or they may pin; FOAF's did a lil bit but he just pulled them off and everything was chill. ~PEACE~
