Situation stabilized? Need Advice!
    #3827205 - 02/24/05 01:51 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Alright, first a little bit of background: I started growing 12 jars a little over a month ago. This will be my second time growing and the first ended in a terrible disaster (no need for details it was all my fault). So this will, hopefully, be my first successful grow. I got completely through the incubation stage with surprising success: not one single jar was lost to contams! (although one is colonizing excrutiatingly slow, since only one injection site germinated) Anywho.. I posted a few days ago with problems controlling humidity, and you guys were all awesome helping me out. I made a few mistakes since then (for example, I tried putting the chamber near a window, hoping to get better results with sunlight, but the cold air near the window forced the RH into a nigh-unrecoverable plummit). FINALLY, I laid out an electric blanket set to a VERY low setting to warm up the fruiting chamber and all seems to be going well... or at least as far as my (extremely) limited experience can tell. The cakes are still knotting up (albeit very slowly), but FAR less fuzz is forming on the little knots. Condensation is forming all over the sides and top of the fruiting chamber, which I would assume is a sign of good RH level, however, little water droplets are appearing on the tops of some of the cakes (I know not if they're dripping down from the top, or condensing there). I was very afraid of these little water droplets, so I've been using a paper towell to GENTLY dab them up whenever I fan my cubies. My question is, based on the preceding recount of events... does it sound like my situation has stabilized? Or am I still in trouble? I really do appreciate this community; you guys are all awesome and extrememly helpful. Thanks.

Sounds good to me. If they're not already pinning, have you thought about "double end casing"? You should look into it, it'd help your yield considerably!

sounds like everything is going ok as long as you aren't overheating the fruiting chamber.

You cut your cakes in half and case the bottom and top of them with vermiculite...same exact technique as PF...just a slightly higher yield with a slightly higher risk of contamination.

That would probably be a good idea. Don't want to overload yourself and end up getting fucked over. Good luck.

I am doing the same right now during incubation, but using an air vent. I am going to buy a heater today. What is this double end casing? I am also on my first grow.

watch out for cobra heat mats. i bought one and it's an expensive cheap ass heater.all it is is a laminated heat coil. i have to return it tomorrow and get an 11" x 11" reptile heater.

try to stay away from heating pads, nothing but a fire hazard, get a space heater that has a temp control, been using one for months and it works perfectly
