I did some searches on the site and didn't come up with anything. I go to okinawa, japan about 2 times a year, once at christmas once in the summer to see my parents. does anybody know what kind of shrooms can be found there, and where to look (mind you most of the island is pretty industrial, there are a few parts that are pretty ag. oriented0 or at least where I can find that info. any help would be great

U okinawans live long and prosper! The 2 oldest people of each gender, 114 and 113 live on Okinawa.

There are no Psilocybe cubensis in Okinarwa or anywhere in japan unless they are grown indoors in soneones basement or garage.

As for Dr. Pepper, he was a pharmacists in Tennessee or Kentucky. His son-in-law married Dr. Pepper';s daughter and they moved to Texas where he invented the drink and named it after his wifes father who was a pharmacist in a drug store which had fountain drinks.

I apologize for the bad info about cubes but i do know that actives grow in the cow fields unless my friend who used to live there is lying to me(which i find hard to believe) So MJ in your travels what do YOU know to be active in okinawa?

thanks for some more history on my favorite drink but I still like that quote.

I know this thread is absolutely ancient, but I feel this addition is relevant.  A newly described species of Psilocybe from Okinawa that is macroscopically indistinguishable from Psilocybe cubensis.

Psilocybe capitulata

Personally, I feel that this is so close to Psilocybe cubensis that, at best, its just a local variant.  But I would still like to examine a sample myself.

So the only real difference is the capitulate pilocystidia?

It does sound like a very weak species concept. The differences they describe barely seem significant enough to define a form let alone a new species.

They are beautiful pictures though.

Okinawa is so similar in climatic conditions and so near to Taiwan and the Philippines that I find it hard to believe that spores didn't travel with the migratory birds, floating coconuts, typhoons, etc. before air travel.
For decades now, dozens of us orchid judges from all over the world gets invited to Okinawa's Ocean park (which might be where that cubensis pic was taken). After our official duties we are toured around Okinawa with our spored shoes from all over the world. If cubensis wasn't there before air travel, I'm pretty sure there are all sorts of strain now.
