help me find A type of music
    #3826167 - 02/24/05 06:23 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hey, hows life going everyone, i'm looking for a type of music. I'm not sure what category it would fall under or really what i'm even looking for. I want music with a lot of tribal drums, whistles, and pretty much anything like that.
sorry for the lack of info. but I figured a lot of you would understand what i'm talking about.
Think anyone can recomend some good music?

Native american music. The NA flute is amazing.

Dead can dance is maybe what you're looking for
it's downtempo btw

I would like to have more music with tribal drums too. Can anyone recommend me some music with some good djembe drumming in it, bongo's too. I just bought a djembe and a bongo so I need some practice material

theres always "moby Dick" by Zepplin. Its the "hour long" drum solo mentioned in Dazed and Confused. Its really only like 15 minutes but damn is it crazy when your stoned.

Listen to the song Party Sequence by Pink Floyd. It's from the album More. It is a very short song, but it is probably something you would be interested in because it fits what you described.

From your description, I'm "picturing" the bridge from "Fool in the Rain" by Led Zeppelin.

I would also suggest Shpongle, if you haven't already checked them out.

check out Babatunde Olatunji - very impressive African tribal drumming that got acclaim from American audiences partially because he toured with the Dead at some point, but that doesn't really mean anything to me. get the 1959 album "Drums of Passion", as it's a really great starting point to African tribal music even though there is better stuff out there in my opinion. some of the chants by various vocalists tend to become annoying if unfamiliar.

if you can find anything by the Drummers of Burundi, do so. I think they're more proficient than Babatunde as great as he is. these guys are virtuosos in all their incarnations, usually the creme of the crop of African musicians even if they have to Westernize their music a bit. it's probably as close to an African tribe most will ever experience.

lastly, check out Kodo. traditional Japanese Taiko drumming. some intensely virtuostic music that connects with you on a spiritual level. check out anything you can find, but pay special attention to their "Ibuki" album that was a collaboration with Bill Laswell (<3). it's a good starting point. also, the "Nasca Fantasy" album is a very unique project that is an amazing world fusion album.

word.

haha yes, those are perfect. I want to spend all day deep out in the woods and eat about 3.5 g of shrooms when it starts to get dark. Then I will make a campfire and blast this music. It's going to be tribal haha
