will the plastic lids for canning jars made by Ball melt in the PC?
    #3824418 - 02/23/05 10:32 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

i just bought two packs and when I got home i read the box and it said not intended for processing. has anyone used this lid type in the pc? if so will is withstand the heat and not melt, they are pretty thick plastic and it would be nice to have reusable lids.

Do they have a number encircled by a triangle? If so, what's the number?

Yes, even though it clearly states on the lid "not for processing", they are PC'able.

the lids will handle the heat just fine but aren't for the vacuum seal that forms after the jars begain to cool when canning, also the lids are made of High Density food Plastic witch breaths a tiny bit and lets oxygen permeate over time witch would also make it not good for long term food storage witch is what thy are talking about when that say not for processing. but if you drill a hole in the top and glue a peace of filter patch to the top with high temp silicone thy work great

here is a link to a place that has them at normal price
8-Pk. Regular Mouth Plastic Storage Caps $2.29
8-Pk. Wide-Mouth Plastic Storage Caps $2.79
thanks to agar for the source for caps
