cottony mycelia
    #3824244 - 02/23/05 07:50 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

MFOAF has a couple of jars almost fully colonized. However all the jars seem to be colonized with cottony mycelia. There are bits or rhizomorfic sections but not much. Can growing conditions promote the growth of different types of mycelium or is a genetic trait?
Anyone have an oppinion on hwat should be done with all this cottony stuff?

my last batch was very much cottony and then once I cased it... rizo's everywhere. it is possible it could be contammed... but it's not enough reason to throw it out... the biggest test... when you open the jars, even with a face mask on.. it should smell really earthy.. if it doesn't and smells musky.. then it's contammed. hope this helped.

its not contaminated i'm posative of that. i've always had alot of rhyso. growth. this is the first time i've had mostly cottony mycelia. Rye grain is the same. temp might be a bit different and water content should be similar. thought someone might know
