to trip or not to trip, an important question.
    #3822967 - 02/23/05 05:29 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

here's the deal. i come from a family history of moderate to severe mental illness, in one form or another. my mother, in fact, is a paranoid schizophrenic with delusional tendencies. my uncle is schizophrenic as well. both of them developed the illness in their late twenties to early thirties. my unclereally only began to suffer after he went through a withdrawal from the use of crack cocaine.

i have eaten mescalin, lsd, magic mushrooms, and tried most of the recreational substances that are available in florida. i am 19, and have never felt any of the symptoms of mental illness. as i get older, however, i have become increasingly worried as to what effects hallucinogens might have on my mental state. obviously, since everyone's body chemisty is different, there is no one straight answer to the question i am about to pose. however, i would like to gather a few (informed, if possible) opinions on the subject:

a buddy of mine has made a half eighth of mushies availiable to me. i'm curious as to whether any of you see indulging in some mushrooms as a possible serious risk to my mental health, keeping in mind my own unique family history.

If you're gonna lose your mind, its going to happen whether you dose or not. Look deep into your heart and you'll be able to decide whether or not it's the right thing for you to do....Good luck!

If you are worried about it, the likelihood that you will have a bad trip is greater.

Latent schizophrenia can be brought out by any significantly powerful emotional experience INCLUDING a bad trip. I don't think I would do it if I were you.

Chances are if you have latent schizophrenia, it may develop later in your life. No sense in sparking it up early. But who knows? You may be totally mentally healthy. I, for one, hope so.

Good luck and good vibes with whatever you do. Be smart and be safe. dose low

Jumped in a river, what did I see?
Black eyed angels swimming with me
Moon full of stars and astral cars, all the figures I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and all my futures
We went to heaven in a little rowboat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

i have heard that schizophrenia skips a gereation ie. if your o has it that you will not. but then on the other hand my ex girlfriends mom was schizophrenic and towards the end of our relationship she started acting very strange like she had it as well. from what i have gathered drug use will not make you schizophrenic neccasarily, you will naturally become that way from genetics. i think it is honestly safe to eat mushrooms and you shouldnt be worried about it. if you becoe schizophrenic later in life you will be off in your own little world anyway and nothing will matter in the end anyway.

Well, you've done hallucinogens before to no ill effect. Did you not think about your family history before then?

If you're worried u might permanently lose your mind because of your family history then just don't do them. I can imagine schizophrenia being fuckin hell... doesn't seem liek much fun. There's a schizo that lives on my street and hes just some hermit that comes out once a day. He walks around picking up garbage and throwing it out properly. Whenever someone gets near him he covers his eyes. Sometimes he'll just run home. He always looks SOOO uncomfortable and scared shitless. He's in his 30's and lives with his parents. Poor guy. And there's this one homeless schizo that hangs around my area, he just looks like somebody on trippin on acid and never talking, often acting strangely. His eyes tell it all.

Don't threaten your sanity if you feel it is at risk.
