Tasty Oyster Grow

First post and first grow, thanks to the ideas that i picked up on this site.

Yesterday I harvested my first oysters Pl. ostreatus from this small scale apartment grow.

I started with a colonized petri, which I used to inoculate some half pint jars with sterilized corn. After they were colonized (10 days) I pasteurized some newspapers and wheat straw (50:50 by weight) by submerging them in hot water (70 deg. C) for about four hours. After that I drained the paper straw mix for 2-3 hours.

The drained straw paper mix.

Inoculated with grain spawn.

The spawned straw paper mix was put in a clear plastic bag and perforated about 15 times with a knife.

Incubated in a dark closet. After 20 days the bag was fully colonized.

The bag was put in a bin. Half of the top of the bin was covered with clear plastic. This allowed enough air exchange.

First pins, 5 days after I had placed the bag in the bin.

7 days later they looked ready to harvest.

Fried in some butter with salt and pepper

I can't wait for the next flush.

Beautifully shaped fruits. What kind of lighting was used during the fruiting?

I love to saute my chanterelles in a pan with butter. Those pictures are making my mouth water.

The oysters received indirect light from a window facing the north. It seems that the fruits that receive more light (facing the window) have brighter colours.
