my simmer??

ive been reading about peoples methods n i may have done mine wrong. I loaded a bunch of rye in a hudge pot, put enough water in it to fully submerge all the rey, then simmerd it for 45 mins, strained it, put it in a garbage bag, let it sit for 24 hours, strained it again then loaded it into the jars n pc'd it, also without soaking n simmering u would sue much more rye, i use alittle more then one cup of rye in each n after soaking n simmerinmg it almost fills the entire jar

Adding it to the garbage bag for 24 hours isnt needed. You should be cool though. It should expand to about twice its original size after the soak and to three times the original size after the simmer..give or take.
