This is my 3rd casing. So far it looks BETTER than all my previous attempts which all failed, but it still looks sketchy to me. I dunno what that fluffy white stuff is or if it's normal. Please let me know. Thanks!

it looks like thick mycelium, but it also looks like the pre-green mold crap.
Youll know in a day or 3 if its a contam otherwise i hope your fruting that casing before it gets overlayed.

its mycelium but it is overlayed in a big way. You need to scratch big time

Your casing is fine.
You should have fruited it sooner...it is overlayed.
I see pins forming on the casing...when I expanded your picture to the full page. I'd leave it alone and let it fruit since you have pins already forming. You should have fruits soon.
You might want to patch or recase after the 1st flush.
good luck!~

Don't scratch that casing. It's starting to pin so just let it go. There are a few spots that look a little suspicious - if it's gonna turn green you'll see it in a day or two.

i didn't know you had to "FRUIT" a casing? what do i have to do different to encourage it? And what the hell is scratching and how would you do it without contaminating it?
thanks! you guys are great.

Not sure what method you are following...but this is what I do.
I colonize a casing layer on my casings at 81 degrees F.
When the mycelium starts breaking through the casing layer...I put it in the fruiting chamber(greenhouse) to fruit. The temp in my greenhouse is 73 to 76 degrees F...that with proper air exchange, proper humidity and giving them some light will trigger fruiting.
Scratching is where your take something(sterile fork for example) and you scratch the surface of your casing layer if you have too much overlay. You don't want to scratch...since you have pins forming on your casing.

Thanks for the info.. I'm not going to scratch i guess. I will mention a couple of my other casings are much more ummm puffy white. I dont see the pins in the pics everyones talking about. I turned the heat off in that room for the next 24 hours to drop it to probably 68ish maybe that will encourage pinning? they have been in the terrarium with a coolmist on 24 hrs / day since i cased them. is that incorrect?

I'm not trying to steal your post but I have a question...my own casing (my first) was left to sit for a week after I cased it and then I opened the top of the sterlite container to give it air. Is it possible that I'm not spraying enough (there is good air circulation and the temperature is between 70 and 75 degrees). It's been three days and all I see is a few patches of white here and there...I'm getting scared that it's not working right?? Could it be too dry? Should I spray more...currently I spray 12-15 pumps every 12 hours...don't know if it needs more water (for humidity?)...someone help!

Well midnight, it looks like you should fruit, there looks like there's overlay, but i'd def. fruit first before i scrated, just wanted to second roadkill's opinion.
At first it looked like hardcore overlay, but when you enlarge it you can see some clusters of primordia forming (pre-pins basically).
How thick is your casing/substrate layer?
O and btw, is it's meanie greenie you got, do like whoever said and cut it out, treat it like cancer and cut a bit more than needs to be cut out, also dip the knife in salt water and then put salt where-ever the mold was plus a lil extra around the area(once again , its like mal. cancer, treat it like so), where the salt goes, nothing will follow, that means no growth from myc. and none from mold, i've heard it has a great success rate, ill send u a link of a previous thread talking about it, but only if u need it or would like to view it ....pm me for it if u want it Good luck
