repeating problems need help
    #382071 - 08/30/01 10:35 AM (23 years, 18 days ago)

ive been using a pasturized straw substrate inocculated with crumbled pf cakes for the past few months...old timer style. every casing i make has the same results...within a week of inocculation the staw is fully colonized...and knit together so closely that i can lift the casing out of its tray and it come out as one huge block of solid mycelium and straw. i get one small flush...then the cake drys out and within a day or two it gets very soggy and turns to mush, and the myceluim on the casing layer turns a blue green and contams and it turns to a big mess. off a 10x12x3 1/2 inch casing im getting less the a half a dry ounce. how the hell can the casing go from rock solid and nearly dry to soaking wet and falling apart with only a light misting every few days. the humidity is a consistat 80-90%. gets plenty of fresh air. also what can i do to improve the size of my flushes> theres gotta be a way to fix this shit. i cant get more then one flush. i have one healthy casing left but its drying out..but im afraid to try and rehyrdrate it because it will turn to mush. someone help me

Straw contaminates easier than manure.
Casing layer should never be dry or wet, it should be moist.
