The smell of weather...

What is that? why does rain smell a certain way? Why does snow smell crisp? why does a premature spring day smell the way it does? why does a premature fall day smell like it does? October 30th has a certain smell also, to me. Sometimes it isnt just smell alone, it is the feeling in your nostrils and a taste in your mouth.
Post some of your weather smells...

i always get flashbacks on the first rain in a long time (not drug flashbacks BTW). i've heard that your sense of smell triggers memories better than any of the other four senses. anyone else hear that? i think it's the smell of wet pavement that takes me all the way back to elementry school, when the playground was wet on a rainy day.
this isn't a weather smell, so i apologize in advance, but today i was thinking about how i like the smell of a beautiful girl's B.O. gross huh? but i've heard that B.O. is an afrodesiac (sp?). i don't know what it is, but some of my girlfriends pungent B.O. just smelled so ripe and delicious...

After a fresh rain, the air smells of ozone generated my lighting strikes. The air is also very moist, and this moisture is a catylst for microbic activity which can release some smells through decomposition.
In winter, a crisp smell could indicate reduce decomposition. It could also be the way dry, cold air hits the nostrils.
In spring, there are many odors being developed and released into the air. This is also the the time when plants play genetic volleyball and this can have some profound effects on the sniffer.
In fall, many plants are dying and releasing odors.

My first thought (besides my first post ) was about the "cleansing" smell of rain when it first "hits".... It *seems* automatically triggering to memories even if I am in a hurry....
However, I do not agree that it is necessarily ozone that makes the smell - UNLESS ozone is within the clouds by action of rain, and brought down to the ground with it's falling.... As a lot of rain is not accompanied by thunder and lightning....
I do very much enjoy a good lightning show.... One of the many of nature's own "Shock and Awe" factors.... A rare form of displayed beauty in ABSOLUTE POWER, and it doesn't even corrupt.... Imagine that...!
