Where did you get information on how to grow the plant?
I only know that i should treat them like succulents or cacti.
And what difficulties did you have germinating the seeds?
Perhaps you can help me to improve my little sceletiums live conditions :-) (they are still seeds *g*)
If making cuttings is as easy as salvia cuttings it should be no problem.
I wish you good luck with them.

I've never heard of/seen this plant. Does it contain any psychoactive alkaloids? If so, what are the effects?
Peace out,

One of its names is Kougoed what means something like chew-able. to my information you can also eat it.
Mostly its taken in form of powder with a bit of alcohol and held in the mouth for about 10 minutes.
I also read that its enhances the effects of alcohol and Cannabis.
All this information is from the book: "Enzyklop?die der Psychoaktiven Pflanzen" from Christian R?tsch

It's also known as Kanna, and you might have better luck looking for information under this name as a number of herbal high companies are selling it as this.
It appears that it works as an SSRI, and so should have antidepressant properties, and I also remember reading a few reports that said it also has stimulant properties.
Take care

I never had anmy problems germinating these from seed, but they did seem to have a tendency to die off after they got to about 1.5" high...

My seeds just germinated and now i have several small plants of about 1cm in height. the rate was 30%. They needed about 2-3 days to start growing and another 2 days for the first cm.
i search for a digital camera so i can show them to you.

We just had a nice X-mas dinner and as a dessert I rolled a mixture of tabacco - sceletium The kaugoed has transformed to rookgoed [smokegoed]. The first thing I noticed was the strange taste of the smoke. The taste reminded me of a time I smoked some xtc-tablets in a joint.
After a few hits I felt a little light in my body and it seemed if my vision had increased. There was more detail to be seen. A few hits later a strange feeling entered my head through my back-bone. As the feeling settled in my head a kind of emptyness had mastered me. My arms and eyelids became very relaxed and heavy.
It was a kind of hard to maintain the thought flow. My internal dialog seemed to slow down or even stop at some moments. Sounds became louder. It was raining and the sound of the rain on the windows turned into a sound like rocks hitting the window. The wind got more sound levels.
Alltough the joint wasn't burning for a few minutes the effects of the sceletium seemed to increase. My body started feeling sleepy. There seemed to be a distance between my body and mind and this distance was filled with gum. I was just sitting, very relaxed, no thoughts, feeling great.
It was time to lit the joint again. ..........Why does it take so long to lit the joint? Strange taste, luckely not as bad as some other herbs. And the wish to lay down on my bed had entered my consciousness. I feel good, like the music that I am hearing, am a little dizzy. Enjoying the unreal connection between body and mind............
I lay down on my bed, relaxed, but my hart was beating 80 bpm. I dimmed all the light and started focusing on the dark. I tried to achieve a conscious dream [ see Claude Rifat......] and within seconds the magic black appeared. I had some fun with an appearing and disappearing triangle which appeared in different sizes. From small to big and visa versa. Than all a sudden from the centre of the triangle a light appeared. The light transformed to a kind of glow-in-the-dark-inkt-spot which moved around the magic black. Changing shapes and colourgrades.
When I returned to the living room I noticed that my vision was misted and my ears were still working overtime. The second sceletium-tabacco-joint brought the same tranquility and I was able to enter the meditation-zone again. I was sucked in the Greatful Dead's guitar sounds and my body started to dance.
