small discreet airconditioner?
    #3818680 - 02/22/05 09:01 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I live in this apartment complex and I chose the worst room ever, it faces in the west, and it has a huge window. It doesn't matter if its 20F outside, my room still gets hot on sunny days, and its sunny all the damn time. The thing is I can't have window mounted A/C because its ruins the uniform look of the complex. There is a central A/C and heating, but my roommates like it hot, so in the winter I duct tape my vent shut. Just wondering if there are some good cooling solutions for my room.

they're not. Its simple really, if I turn on the air conditioner, they'll turn it off and put the heat on. When they put the heat on, I'll turn it off. I'm not going to guard the thermostat 24/7.

They make small, stand alone ac's that will work in your room but they're gonna cost you. Expensive to buy and to run.

I would buy an digital thermostat with a lock while they were out and replace yours so they can't fuck with it.

I mean if you thought of it first right? 24hr saecurity.

Air conditioners work by moving heat, and it has to have someplace outside to move it to. So it can't be self-contained in a room, it's either window or central, pretty much.

Anyway, it doesn't sound like your roommate is being reasonable. Tell him to put on a fucking sweater. If all else fails, go with HagbardCeline's suggestion and take control for yourself.

Actually the one I posted is a self contained unit. It is aptly called an evaporative cooler. You have to add water to the unit as it is depleted. It works by running water over a thin film and using a fan to evaporate the water resulting in a cool breeze.
